I`m trying to work out how some people rate. This IS outstanding IMHO. Everything is correct in this shot. Colour`s, DOF, perspective etc are near faultless in this macro. A very delicate, subtle shot that really, really works. The title is perfect. A beautiful blend of hard and soft.

Excellent in all realms Greg. Dan.

Ratings like this are why rating are totally useless - and reflect more on the rater than the rated - there is no excuse for this

Jacob Lopes Jacob Lopes #13 Tue 5 Feb 2002 01:46

Wonderful colours!!!

Gunnar Hansen Gunnar Hansen #14 Tue 5 Feb 2002 06:07

A little bit of cropping, and adding USM, would be nice.

once again what is there left for me to do but thank you ever so much for the extremely generous appreciation with regard to my comments if they had made you think i should be rated best at photoforum (this is an incredible most precious gift) before you even went to my gallery i gather they do - as i genuinely hope - make all the sense i need them to make
it also means that the pictures i write about manage to communicate to me one way or another so that my response in not dull uninspired or sere

the reason why my gallery is empty at the time being is not lack of pictures i could post
though it`s true i do take pictures very rarely now
as i put it someplace else i believe that too many pictures are taken every single minute of our lives by millions and millions of people professionals or not good or bad consistent or inconsistent
what i am interested in myself is a photograph that could tell things other photographs do not have the resources to tell
impact as they put it here on the forum is i would then say paramount to me
composition and technique could be brilliant and flawless - so that the rating is the highest or thereabout - yet these photographs might not be the photographs one would really like to hang on one`s wall
moreover not those one would be thrilled to be given the chance to think about again
i want my pictures to convey mood and feelings that are either unique (but is that possible) or not very frequently experienced - not fully
i want my pictures to achieve that through combinations of shapes and hues (usually of grey) and ideas
but what artist true to him/herself and the craft does not want that
i would not normally say these things for they often make people react in a negative way - intention and result we are almost always tempted to say are not one and the same thing that is why only the most daring of artists (i find edgar allan poe and his philosophy of composition the best example here) venture to explain their work without fear of misinterpretation by critics/receivers
or even malevolent reaction (the world of art is not spite-free oh no not by a long shot)

i would also like to see and consider a great many other pictures before i take into account exposing mine
my pictures (i`ve shared this belief for quite a long time now almost ever since as a much younger person i had a series of revelations in connection to the art of writing) incorporate the whole process of thinking associated to the process of their making and then contemplation that is to say if the ideas that associate in my head with the photographs i take and work upon get rounder and rounder riper and riper the latter cannot but get enriched themselves
to speak in fashionable computer terms they get upgraded

(continued)

my pictures will therefore come to the site one day or another that might even be inevitable
the problem is there are so many things to see

patience - primarily on my part - could probably solve that problem

last but not least i am looking forward to receiving that invitation to join the other group
that is again extremely kind (not to mention flattering) of you

and now in connection to this picture of yours my feeling is that the focus is on the drops just above the two little flowers not on these my intention would have been to have it the other way round not because i do not find the first alternative interesting (on the contrary!) but because the flowers tiny as they are still big enough to divert the look from the beads to lure it
the background is tremendous - the colours are so soft and softly joined together
that is the reason why decision to cut any of it out could be extremely difficult to make (we are as we all know so very well extremely subjective we get attached as if by the toughest of ropes to what we do ourselves) but i would still say that cropping this delicate picture some other way should be considered
it is difficult because the tenderness in the idea of protection might not be easy to keep if margins are cut some more (maybe that was your dilemma too?) yet it could be given a try
i really do not know how to cut but that is how i feel
