notes:
Nanxun is a town located 30 km. east of the downtown of Huzhou City in north Zhejiang. It covers an area of 34.2 square km. with a population of 45,000. Nanxun lies on the plain of the water region, only 3.5 meters above the sea level. It has warm and humid climate with the annual temperature at 16 degrees Celsius and an annual rainfall of 1150 mm. on an average. It is a famous historical and cultural town with a history of 1400 years. In the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279), it was already a flouring town, and by the reign of Emperor Jiajin (1522-1567) of the Ming Dynasty, it became an important commercial town in Zhejiang because of the development of silk market and silk industry. In the poems the town is described as "thousands of households gather here on this water town market, and fishing boats and merchant vessels call at it side by side." and "On the night market, you can buy water bamboo shoots and lotus roots, and in spring ships carry silks and brocades to the town."
