Fred Rohde, who lives in Leiden(Holland), is together with Molly Ackerman the owner of the Expansionist Art Empire Gallery. He participated in more then 50 photo exhibitions under which the Photo Biennial of Rotterdam and Amsterdam. He gives workshops at the University of Leiden. A part of his photography is documentary. He worked as a photojournalist for the newspapers of his hometown Leiden(Holland) and is an editor of the Dutch magazine Tattoo Planet. As a member of the Rumanian photo group “7 Days” (
www.7zile.ro) he documents the social life in Maramures(North - Romania) with devotion and sympathy for people in daily life in engaged authentic portraits, showing not only the outside but the soul as well. His portraits are apparent simple but with a great inwardly contemplation. They are a key to access another reality behind the observation. He is a member of the artist exchange program SPIAE(St. Petersburg, Russia) and the ‘Photographers Evening’, a group respected photographers of Amsterdam. Another part of his photography, like his series ‘Photochemical Happenings’ in this exhibition, is experimental. The photochemical reacts with the photographic paper with gives the effect of very old photographs corroded by the ravages of timeAbove all he is a photographer of the human being.
