Ng Sor Luan: Yes, it`s a lock. Originally I wanted to leave more space on the right, so that the keyhole is visible too, but that spoiled the composition.
I truly love this photo. I am so glad that you wisely chose black and white for it. The anquish and softness on the man`s face works so well with the heavy and solid features of the iron gate. Great contrasts and textures.
