I had no idea that your culture also celebrated Halloween. This goes back to the holiday of All Saints day of the Catholics as it was influenced by the Day of the Dead in Mexico, a pagan native holiday, in which the dead ancestors were brought food so they would choose not to leasve their eternal resting places.
