i once was in a canoe myself
it was a relatively small lake also shallow on a canal
it was a great summer day and we were very excited about it all
we rowed for an hour and marvelled at the smoothness in the swift motion of the boat as well as at the big fish swimming just a feet under us
it was a city then
this here seems wilder - the trees squeezed in bring about that feeling
quiet too (it was quiet for us on the lake/canal as well but perhaps in a somewhat different way)
but the two do not seem aware of anything around them no matter how beautiful
what would they be telling each other
the man seems over-confident
i bet he does most of the talking
taking advantage of the fact that she does not feel quite safe but thinks he is there for her in case something - anything - might - unexpectedly - for no reason - happen
or it might be exactly the other way round
or they might have an argument - take me to the bloody shore right now she might be telling him
