Detail of side chapels niches:
On 8th December 1966, the National Pantheon was inaugurated and it pays tribute to the memory of the 19th century Portuguese writers, Almeida Garrett(1799-1984), Joao de Deus(l83o-1869), and Guerra Junqueiro(1850-1923) in one room, and in another room, the Presidents of the Portuguese Republic, Teofilo de Braga(1843-1924), Sidonio Pais(1827-1918) and Oscar Carmona(1869-1951).
In the church, in each alcove chapels of the wings, there are three niches with cenotaphs of great Portuguese Historical Figures: Nuno Alvares Pereira(1360-1431), Prince Henry, the Navigator(1394-1460), Afonso de Albuquerque(1462-1515)Vasco da Gama(1469-1524),Pedro Alvares Cabral(1468-1520)And Luis de Camoes(1524-1580).
Amalia Rodrigues, the greatest Portuguese Fado singer is also burried there as I said before!
