Poets Park is a 25 hectare park and was born out of an original idea of David Mourao Ferreira and Francisco Simoes, in order to celebrate poetry and it would tell the story of poetry in an avenue flanked by sculptures of twenty poets of the twentieth century. The concept was developed by Oeiras City Council together with the architec Francisco Caldeira Cabral in partnership with master sculptor Francisco Simoes. It`s a space dedicated to culture and sport, a celebration of creativity and the importance of literature which is recognised over the world, and my village, Oeiras, proudly pays tribute! The Park, when completed, will have a total of 61 poets.
PS: it also has a special meaning for me because the poet and writer David Mourao Ferreira was my teacher at the university for 3 years long.
