And this is an example of a modern chimney which can be found not only in Tavira but also in the entire region of Algarve!
In Portugal chimneys vary from region to region and the ones in the North are quite different from the ones in the South which are embellished by the arabesque art, carefully whitewashed and suggesting the interior with its hearth and where the olive oil and the wine rest!!! (may be because in the South kitchens are the most important division of the house, it’s where you cook, where you eat, where you work and where you receive your friends, fireplaces are usually in the kitchen under the chimneys and most of the houses have their main door open directly to the kitchen…)
I believe that the colour, the symmetry and the white geometric lines are an Arab heritage!
