funny all of a sudden i could rate this one
i wonder why...
something wrong with the settings perhaps

i like it anyway
i like its rhythm (old things never haste but when you least expect them to do so) and the nearly artificial clouds and the ditch (beautiful smooth curve of the arlington road...) and the black-black windows and the feeling it induces - that one is being expected he who has so far failed to show up yet is on his way here there is no doubt about that
because we cannot stop for death he kindly stops for us...

thank you very much

and now let`s away let`s away

Judicious use of light, flowing DOF draws me into the frame while pausing to look at the various details that you have provided. The chimneys, the shingling of the roofs and the masonry enhance the tone and mood of this shot. smile

Very pleasant composition

Perfectly captured architecture of old but well planed residential buildings for workers-settlements I guess ! It looks like one of those first attempts for gardencities in townplaning which started exemplarily well done in England. Mike please correct me if I`m wrong.
I too may imagine that this photo would be great in colour as well ! It`s a really fine shot with very romantic mood. Thanks for sharing !

if it weren`t for the house on the left and what is behind it which block to some extent the view i would see this as one of those things i like best - a road that leads to the sea a few houses on the sides and sunshine and all peaceful - though not necessarily quiet as well (there are people here too and they live their lives just like everyone else only perhaps less swiftly) - and the sea just behind the hill you only have to get to the top of it and then there it is the sea the sea bright and wide almost at your feet waiting for you to arrive

the suggestion of open space behind this long house - probably in contrast to what we have to the left - is so strong to me i do feel there could be the sea there calm and quiet and patient and radiant

ps
i must say (in relation to the explanations in your message) i have not `earned the right to rate` anything since i (still) have not posted any photograph yet
i do not see a problem in that myself - i would say on the contrary i find delight in having to - sort of - strive to `earn` that right (i.e., persuade people) by other means than showing i too can take good pictures
actually i do not care much about earning any right - if i do not have access to something i can always try something else that is to say in this case - photoforum.ru - if somebody does not want me to rate their pictures i can rate somebody else`s after all one cannot please everybody whatever one does plus there are so many photographers on the site it really does not matter whether some do not want zero-scorers like me around actually i`ve found quite a few that are never offended by my intrusion - they find their world is still safe with me in there saying things and rating and that is awfully rewarding after a long day`s work

to put it another way i do rate whatever i feel like rating
(freedom has this terrific taste - i would not trade the shivers down my flesh for anything at all)

my ratings are also high that is true (to hint to some discussions in the forums)
and i sometimes do not rate pictures that do not tell me as much as others - which is bad
i should do something about that should i not

(to be continued)
(it said my comment was too long so i had to split it in two)

(continued)

not least warmest thanks for warmest considerations
if i am wise as you so extremely kindly put it that is only so because there are things around me that stir me in various ways - they trigger thoughts and emotions that are sometimes most valuable and unique
as some other people put it in the discussions in the forums section of the site there are pictures here of amazing quality - some of them combine shapes and colours and shades in such surprising ways some might also tell stories that could please the most sophisticated of minds
well perhaps all are wise only they might not know it or dare show it - they are too deep into fearing something like status could be affected if they let go of inhibitions and listen to their heart and encourage their wildest thoughts to come to the fore of their minds they should just stop take their time consider everything with a light heart and an open mind and then it`s done they`re already there

such a wonderful world...

Fine work, Mike. Transfers a smell of time... I so her(it) also have named - " the Smell of time... " Probably, in England this smell of historical time is especially felt? By the way, the good name for a series of works. It is sure, you can consult(cope) with such series (I see on your works). Successes!
