The giant Christmas tree installed at the Praça do Comércio square is going to be inaugurated this evening and will display a height of 72 metres (about 236 ft, the equivalent of a building with 23 floors), which means it will be ten metres taller than the structure mounted last year at Belém.

This year, Lisbon will share with the capital of Poland the biggest Christmas tree of Europe, as a «twin» has been installed at Warsaw and will also remain in display until the 8th of January.

The inauguration at the central Lisbon square, programmed to begin at 8 pm, will be enlivened by the show «The Magic of Light», combining fireworks and music, and thus some of the surrounding streets will closed to traffic for a short period, announced the Lisbon City Council.
