notes:
Aya Sophia (Church of holy wisdom) is one of the greatest surviving examples of Byzantine architecture. Justinian himself had overseen the completion of the greatest cathedral ever built up to that time (537). In the following years after each big earthquake and large scale city fire new repairs and renovations of Aya Sophia took place to conserve it until today.
It was the seat of Orthodox patriarch of Constantinopole, during the Latin occupation (1204-1261) the church became a Roman catholic cathedral. After the fall of Constantinopole it was converted to a mosque(1453).
In 1934 under Turkish president Kemal Ataturk it was secularized and turned into the museum.
It is nice to see that different cultures and religions can pray under the same roof... so there is no good reason to fight.
