notes:
The Ciricahuan Apaches held their own againsts the encroaching hordes of immigrants with dreams of striking it rich in California under the leadership of their Chieftan, Cochise. Cochise was taken captive once by the US military. He cut the tent and escaped moving his people into the Dragoon Mountains of his childhood. The rugged terrain and Cochise's knowledge of the terrain of this 'Stronghold" kept his people safe and a threat to the onslaught of immigrants and militia. Cochise eventually signed a treaty, but some Apache, like Geronimo carried on fighting for another decade. Somewhere on this land, known to very few of the time as to where Cochise was laid to rest.
