On December, 25th, 1812 the Russian emperor Alexander I has published the manifest on which in Moscow it was supposed to erect a temple in honour of a victory of Russia over army of Napoleon. The new temple should become олицетворением a feat of Russian people and commemoration " to gratitude to Craft Божей and rescueed Russia from destruction threatened to it ". The author of the first project of a temple was architect Alexander Vitberg.
According to its plan, a place of erection of a temple of the Christ of the Savior should become mountains Vorobevy, and the cathedral should consist of three parts connected among themselves and symbolized the Embodiment, Transformation and Revival. In the bottom temple it was supposed to bury remains fallen in fights during Domestic war of 1812. The temple has been solemnly incorporated in 1817, However Vitberg plans could not be realized: mountains have started to settle under weight of an erected construction, and Nikolay I which has replaced Alexander I on the Russian throne, and has at all found project Витберга unsuccessful and impracticable. Instead of it in 1832 the architect of a temple of Revival Христова had been appointed Konstantin Ton.
Temple it has been decided to erect on a place was Алексеевского a female monastery. In this connection long time there was a legend according to which one of the nuns, revolted by carry of a monastery, in hearts has damned a place of erection of a temple and has predicted, that any construction not простоит on this place more than 50 years. Anyway, the site has been chosen as it is impossible more successfully: the temple was visible from any point of Moscow, and the neighbourhood with the Kremlin emphasized deep communication of a new temple of the Christ of the Savior with Russian history and culture. On construction and internal furnish of a temple of the Christ of the Savior cunningly almost 40 years: it was erected with 1839 for 1883. on May, 26th, 1883 a temple has been solemnly consecrated at Alexander's presence III and imperial family. The first temple of the Christ of the Savior has existed 48 years in this connection many recollected a legend about a damnation of the nun.
The majestic temple caused irritation of the Soviet government: it was not entered in any way in new state ideology and universal planting of atheism. Under Joseph Stalin's order the temple of the Christ of the Savior has been blown up on December, 5th, 1931.
On a place of a temple it was supposed to construct the Palace of Advice - the huge tower topped by a statue of Century of I.Lenin. However plans on erection of a building have been broken by the Second world war. In 1958-1960-Õ years the foundation ditch dug under the base of the Palace, has been used for construction of the open swimming pool "Moscow".
Pool " Moscow " has existed 30 years. In the end of 1980th years there was a social movement for revival of a temple of the Christ of the Savior, and in July, 1992 the President of Russia B.N.Yeltsin has published the decree about creation of Fund of revival of Moscow. In the list of objects which were required to be restored, on the first place there was a Temple of the Christ of the Savior. Owing to improbably prompt rates of conducting civil work in 2000 completely recreated temple has been consecrated.
