I took this photo at col of the Jaizquibel, in Spain, not far from San Sebastian. From this place,what we can see is the border between Spain and France.
The small river that we see is the Bidassoa, the river border. On this shore, just at the bottom of the slope of the col is located the charming village of Fuenterrabia (hondarribia in Basque language) dominated by the medieval castle of Jane the crazy one, which is now a parador of turism.
. On the other shore the French city of Hendaye, in the French Basque country with its beach as a croissant ...
Formerly the lonely passage between the two countries was the old international bridge from Hendaye to Irun very watched by the customs and the police... Today, the expressways cross the region without a least stop for the customs.
A sad history: during the summer 1938 the french people who were in vacation in Hendaye mustered themselves on the beach to see the franquist bombs crushing on Fuenterrabia.. It wouls be soon the end of the resistance of the republicans and the victory of general Franco...

Beautiful view but so sad story behind it.
I like pale blue colour of the sky, ... makes good contrast with dark tones.
