I think you had a good idea with the portrait, working in the softer light of the shade trees instead of the bright sun in the background, however, I feel the background (though out of focus to make it less obvious) is still too distracting. What if you had moved around your subject and got a simple background of the water or maybe a complete bank of trees? I think this would then have been a stronger portrait.

По-моему, многовато пустоты над головой. И потом, если чуть погасить фон и подсветить лицо, портрет будет более выражен. А вообще, очень хорошо получилась мягкость линий и красок.
