I think I`ve seen this one on foto.no, right? I like the placement of the elements here, and especially the rope and how it curves and goes perfectly down to the corner. A strong and simple composition that reveals competence in the photographer, no doubt about that.

Unfortunately, it doesn`t work quite for me. You write that you`ve worked on it in Photoshop, and one can see this. The most distracting to me is the very clear banding, i.e. one can clearly see the transition between the colors. The water also has a rather dull color. Also, the ripples on the shadows don`t quite seem to match the calmness of the water?

Thank you, both of you for your comments.
Marius, I have had comments like your on another photocritic site, and those who saw the banding all had their monitors set to 16 bit(High colour) and not to 32 bit(True colour). You should try to look into your settings and see if that is where the problem is.
About the photshop work, I just used the ususal enchantment tools and desaturated all but the bouye. This was a really foggy day, and together with deaturating it, that makes it quite gray. If you think grey is dull, I guess it will be dull for you.

Well, so far I can`t find a single shot of your I don`t love - excellent work - this is so peaceful. I can almost feel the fog

Marius S Marius S #5 Wed 16 May 2001 20:57

Trine: To my big surprise, I had the depth set to 16 bits. I don`t know when or how that happened. It looks a lot better now, so disregard some of my comment.

Grey can be dull, but it can also be elegant.

neat! very minimalist... Call me crazy but I would`ve liked to see some (even if tiny) ripples on the water - I`m assuming they were there in the original. This gray is just so static and , well... dead.

and this image is the opposite of the previous one. It is not just about technical abilities (of one`s camera) but it is about taking beautiful pictures. I love the depth, the light and the mood. This is an outstanding photograph.
