The Mine of Is Domingos is placed in the Low Alentejo, in the left edge of the Guadiana, the 17 km of the Village of Mértola. The lands of the region are almost all of shale, the climate are hot and dry, in the months of Summer the 30 regularly the maximum temperatures exceed - 35º Celsius. The Mine of Is Domingos is combined in Iberian the Piritosa Band that constitutes one of the most important Metalogénicas Provinces of polimetálicos massive sulfuretos to the world-wide scale. One meets inactiva since 1966 for alleged exhaustion of its reserves.
