Chalucet... In this time the French and English made war, a war which lasted several centuries... The huge medieval fortress of Chalucet was exactly on border, between the rich dukedom of Aquitaine where reigned the kings of England, and the kingdom of France.
Richard Heart of Leo, John without Land, for England, opposed to the viscounts of lLimoges, vassals of the kings of France. Chalucet was taken by ones then attacked and taken by the others... As the difficulty for keeping it was great, it was abandoned.. And soon occupied by a brigands' band which terrorized the region during two centuries. At the head of this band, a mysterious and sinister figure, the Sire of Chalucet..A limousin occitan song says: « qu'ero lou nid de quauque fier vautour» (it was the nest of some proud vulture).
It's why the king of France decided to make it destroy in 1600.
During centuries, ruins remained hidden by undergrowth and foliages... And for some years jobs led by the Regional council of Limousin put again in daylight what stays there, the heart of the castle, and the second high tower that you can see lower and which people of the place know under the name of « tower Jeannette» and consolidate the walls which were a danger for the walkers...
Chalucet exists again... Misters English, come!

what a story.. those walls still there, witnesses of such events..
the stones talking about past braveness, about victory and defeat..
and your image rescuing all that for our eyes.. and souls
