Inner circle... A railway forgotten in Paris... Behind buildings between yardss and gardens, under tunnels, on bridges or viaducts, a 27 km railway where there are not anymore trains since 1934...
Rails were put down there in XIXth century. In 1870, during the siege of Paris by the Prussian, they served for transporting troops and equipment towards the fortifications which encircled the city Later they put there passengers' trains which circulated until 1934 between delightful small railway stations.
Today rails are always there, and if railway stations were destroyed or transformed, signalling, tunnels, viaducts are maintained, even if they hear no more whistle of the stream engines...
Recently during the works of the line 14 of the subway, "Meteor" it is by this way that they carried off the rubbles...
The inner circle still exists, but nobody can say what will be its future... Cycle track? Track of walk? Tramway? In any cases it is still one of the secret curiosity of Paris

good shot my friend... now, i remember Victor Hugo and "Miserables" (in my opinion, the best representation in a movie it was that with Jean Gabin); regards

I guess it would be great cycle track! One day you will be able to show to people it`s real and original face.
There is forgotten railway five minutes from my home, .... and I remember moments of waiting and expecting train to pass by, ... only to hear its sound and siren. Now there is only silence and weed.
Beautiful photo!

Great photo for me Yves ! I love all things about railroads !! Thanks for the photo and great detailed notes ! Close to my home tracks were abandoned in recent years and turned into a statewide trail system for pedestrians. It is named The Silver Comet Trail after famous train that ran those lines if curious you can read whole story at http://ngeorgia.com/feature/silver_comet.html
