Your words are correct.
The theme against the black background do a good contrast. I like also the frame and the distribuition of the light. Congratulations Oldman Hank.

Красивый снимок, но отчего такой мелкий, эдак скоро работы придется оценивать по превьюшкам...
Мне кажется, что композиционное решение снимка не очень удачное: снимок имеет три центра, связанные между собою лишь названием, а посему довольно трудно воспринимается как целое --для восприятия глаз постоянно пытается сфокусироваться на каждом объекте по отдельности.

Ne uveren, no po moemu EOS30 = Elan7.
If so - Then:
1. Focusing points. In case of macro some times better to let she focuses automatically and on center (2 shots, but result could be dramatically different.) Unfort. Canon has some problems with complicated focusing on regular (not sharp) lenses. (based on the focus I assumed it was very much cropped).
2. Grains: question of film and processing. I switched to G2 from Elan7(still have it) And when you print poster like stuff the difference is Really visible. + for Digital.
3. f-number: low for SLR she needs it more then 5.6 for such macro and of course we have a problem with speed. I know. But it’s a trade. Elan7 support exposure compensation and Flash exp. Compensation, so we can play with that and use bracketing. Again, I know, that it’s expansive and boring, but it’s SLR’s pictures’ cost.
4. Macro Flash is preferable (stupid suggestion mine don’t have that. I just cannot resist… With that macro-Light the pictures are dramatically beautiful).
The “macro” is good, I actually know, how hard to take such picture with digital and SLR (plus scanning), so I cannot compel myself to rate lower then 5. ;o)

Да действительно маленькая картинка получилось, без необходимости. Черный фон прекрасно сжимается, кстати, о нем, глубины резкости явно не хватает. На мой взгляд, диафрагма была меньше F11, тогда откуда такой черный фон? А главное что фокус “попал не туда”, не на зверя, а по середине. Согласен с Андреем (#6), но если передний зверь был резким, при той же диафрагме, остался бы единственный смысловой центр.
