Unfortunately, Friday I had to say goodbye to one of our most beloved family members our dog Will. Will was an amazing animal who was so devoted and dedicated and actually has a slight inspirational story. Will was my choice of a puppy from a litter that my female chocolate lab had about 12 and 1/2 half years ago. Will lead the normal dog life until he was about 9 years old and started to limp on his left rear leg. He was diagnosed with osteocarcoma which is known as bone cancer. In dogs, usually what happens is that by the time you detect the cancer it has spread to the lungs. Generally, the leg is amputated for pain relief and the dog will live another 4-6 months. However, this didn't happen with Will. He survived that cancer and lived another 3 and 1/2 years. I don't think he even realized the loss of the leg and was able to go all around the yard without any pain. Last week, Will stopped eating and at the vet on Friday he was diagnosed with lung cancer and it had spread to his kidneys. Will survived the earlier cancer (plus another benign tumor in his side), but he couldn't make it past this one. He was euthanized on Friday to end his suffering at the age of 12 and 1/2. He had made it to the normal life span of a labrador which is 12-14 years of age. He was an amazing animal who can illustrate that cancer can be survived and can live a normal healthy life. He'll be missed. (Thanks Mircea for the idea of the angle on this one. It's one of my favorite pictures of Will)

Sorry you lost your friend Jim. I know they become just like family. My blue tick has been acting funny lately and I'm dreading the day she goes.

Thanks Billy. It was a hard Thanksgiving knowing that he was no longer going to be with us. He had such a wonderful personality and disposition. He was the sweetest dog you could ever meet.
