The term «national romanticism» is applied to all the finnish art of the end of the 19th – the beginning of the 20th centuries. Such a style in the architecture in Finland is called also «Jugend» and in Russia – «the Northen Modern» what is not quite correct, becouse the features of such a style can be observed not only in the North… On the photo you can see the Railwaystation Square in Helsinki and one of the buildings created in the style of national romanticism – the Finnish National Theatre. It was built in 1902 by the architect Onni Tornquist. There are different points of view about the architectural and town-planning value of the building becouse of the contrast with another buildings on the squaire. I think it’s just this contrast which makes the image of the squaire so expressive and I believe we must consider the National Theatre as a strong dominant which adds lustre to the squaire also and makes it so charming and romantic, especcially with all those flowers, even in a rainy day…

Необычные для моего глаза вазы с цветами красиво украшают площадь. Чистота ее просто поражает. Здание Театра выглядит очень интересно. Здесь, действительно, хочется прогуляться даже несмотря на пасмурную погоду. smile
