One of the most expressive works in BW. Exellent composition, the game of the shadows and light, the rhythm of lines and the hues of grey... Wonderful details and accents, very precise... And in the whole - the metaphorical sounding of the picture... Climbing the stairs...

Composition is great - as always is the case with Jose. But too many precious detailes on that dilapidated house on the back are just lost without color...Maybe, when it is printed to large size, it looks different, but now - I think that B&W calls for larger and fewer details...

Well... No matter that some details are lost without colour... I think the most important thing here is movement, the rhythm of the movement... ("climbing the stairs...") smile

mmmm... then let's put some white spot - or heavy blur - instead of this wonderful house...

I really see movement and rhythm on stairs of Berenice, but not here .

Fact that stairs are present at the picture, doesn't automatically mean that there is rhythm and movement... I don't think that we should dogmatically apply image interpretation in Freundian-masonic way : stairs - obligatory movement/rhythm, sun - happiness, fish - wisdom and so on laugh Please leave us freedom for our own associations ...

Oh... Such a discussion... You don't see movement here, it's OK... But I do see!... Can't help it. smile
And - why "white spot" or "heavy blur" instead of the house? The house is VERY important, and extremely important is the whole mise-en-scene!
And - by the way - movement is connected here not with the FACT of the stairs, but with the rhythm of the shadows and light, dark shadows and light shadows , the change of the configuration of the stairs... And so on... Please, take your freedom and have your own accotiations. smile And please let me have my own. smile
Thank you for the interesting discussion! smile
