I don`t care about the center or the horizon!!! If I like the finished product....then..I`m happy...rules or no rules...This shrimp-boat is just perfectly located here..The solitude is not only the beauty of the silhouetted trawler...but also...the vastness of the sea and the horizon far in the distance...I think it is a beautiful,poignant image...to heck with the rules!!!
I love everything. The centered subject, the muted color, the opened space. The only thing I may try differently is to put the subject right at the horizon line, creating a 2D effect. By doing so, it will create more of a vastness feeling. Just my 2 cents. But I like it the way it is.
If this was called `Fishing Boat` I would mark at lower for just the reasons you said (plus the fact that it is too far away!!). However, when I saw the title and then the screen revealed this boat, I thought it captured the concept perfectly! Dead centre is exactly the right place if you want a static lonely mood. My only tiny niggle is that you can just see that the boat is moving...if it were truly becalmed, that might have been even better.

I love the flatness, the tedium, the monotony of this image, I guess the photograph would be worthless if it were any more brighter, had more intensive colors or was more of a 2 D or 3 D image. It is beautiful the way it, as is, and I cannot think of any way of improving it because the picture seems to be perfect as is. It`s a sure 5.

Hi, Alenka. This exquisite picture excites again my admiration. Besides, the schooner isn`t smack in the center, neither does the horizon split the image in 2 and is hardly visible, so the sea and the sky don`t look much separated and that lends a very special sens to the whole.
Been trying to rate and comment on this one all morning. Very serene and lovely. Sometimes breaking compositional rules produces fine results. Don`t always think you have to stay in the lines, Alenka. This deserved it`s award as POTD. Congratulations!
