When the tree does not bear fruit
Its branches bend like hands of those buried alive,
The naked branches, dried up, without God`s pardon!
And, later, my God, a slow procession of migrants of the drought...
Now and then one falls, exhausted, at the road side
Because, on the lips, there is not the freshness of water,
The sweetness of the fruit...

Quando a arvore nao dah frutos
seus galhos se contorcem como maos de enterrados vivos,
os galhos desnudos, ressecos, sem o perdao de Deus!
E, depois, meu Deus, uma lenta procissao de retirantes...
De vez em quando um tomba, exausto a beira do caminho
porque nao ha no labio o frescor da agua,
a docura do fruto...
