Hoping to catch a summer storm with warm desert colors, I headed up the mountain to my favorite vantage point. Alas, the clouds closed and then dropped some rain on the valley below. There was just enough of a break in the clouds to allow some light through.

Very interesting state of weather! Shown perfectly!

Yes, it turned from excellent to interesting in a matter of minutes, as weather during the summer will do here in the Chihuahuan desert. And thanks for saying so.

Thank you. The dark and dramatic can be quite beautiful.

amazing light and volume! great weather for a photographer

Thank you for your comments. Sometimes we can seek out the great weather at the right moment; sometimes the moment just arrives unexpectedly, as does the light. The old Olympus E-1 seems to know what to do when they both arrive at the same time.

I give more trust to my finger than to my camera. The former knows when to press much better, never mind the age smile smile

Yes, Nikolay, good eye-brain-finger coordination AND a "light catching device" no matter what the make, model or age. Exactly!

Excellent. Very expressive.

Shannon Hiatt Shannon Hiatt #12 Sun 28 Jul 2013 01:50

Thank you, Zeonoff. The photo exemplifies the type of weather we get during our brief monsoonal season--when the moisture from the Gulf of Mexico is whipped to the West Texas-Mexico-New Mexico border region. Normally we get 9 inches of rain per year. The last two years have been about 3 inches. So . . . we enjoy, and photograph, whatever storm clouds come our way.
