Certainly portrays a dreary day. The left and right seem to be two compositions fighting for the viewer's attention. See variant for the effect of saturation and brightness control. my variant of the photo

Your variant is a very imposing version! For my opinion, the foggy mood is seen better, when the saturation is in sparse use. That's why I would prefer the original version.
It's difficult to find the balance for the best contrast in an image like this. Your variant gets more sunshine into the scene, but I see dense fog over the landscape.

I agree. Now a few days later, I see that the original is clearly about the cold dreary fog. In my variant, it is not very clear what mood is to be conveyed.
