I`m a novice at the site, but I`ve read the huge discussion about the problem of rating (generally, in Russian), so I have a suggestion. To my mind, general purpose of the site is not rating, but an opportunity for everyone to get a real advice how to improve his (her) own photos. There are people at the site, who are very good photographers and at the same time spend much time at the site. I suggest that these masters should (of course, voluntarily) comment the photos by giving the author an advice how to improve the photo: including composition, exposition, PhotoShop, etc. Not a simple statement "Nice capture" or "Bad capture", but an advice "Do this or that". I think this would be interesting for the masters themselves, because different masters will have different opinions and it`ll be a discussion.

Can enter one more field, besides “ comment: ”, to add a field – “ friendly advice: ”.
Where as against comments, such as – "excellent", it will be necessary to write real offers on improvement of work. On the same field and to conduct statistics for the unit of "critics" that will correspond more to the name. Or to add additional points for this field.
In your own way you are correct but remember that there are many people who dont understand a critic and are`nt really interested in read that his (her) photos are not perfect, because for them, the photos are perfect. I`ve experienced this on other sites and i know what i`m talking. It`s easyer and avoid conflicts to rate and comment like this.
Some people criticise by mail wich is a better way of doing it.
