Yes, I took a ferry from Helsinki. Gamla Stan is my favorite place in Stockholm.

Terve, yes, those ferries to Stockholm are great, I took Silja a few times and Viking once, Silja was a bit better (for me cheaper a bit because I came from St. petersburg and booked it there). I love Gamla Stan and water front areas, and parks, although most of 20 century Stockholm is too modernist and ugly for my taste (better than Moscow though, that's must be champion of ugliness). Gamla Stan is better in very cold winters, when there are not too many tourists and when (I saw it only once in 2002/2003) the internal bays and channels in Stockholm freeze so you can walk from the city hall to the gamla stan by foot across frozen water.
