This is a piece of equipment that has been designed to move the rope or the metallic chain where the buckets are fixed, to raise the water from the cisterns or from the wells!
In Portuguese the name of the device is “Nora” but I don’t remember the English word, may be somebody can help about it…

Bela escolha para motivo Melo, as altas luzes estгo muito bem trabalhadas, a base da nora idйm, somente e se me permite, aquelas 6 pбs + densas no canto superior esquerdo, ficariam mais atractivas se lhe subisse um pouco a curva dos pretos.
Sу uma opiniгo, caso a queira levar em conta:).
