A terrible beauty. But I do not wish to rate it. How much sadness, senseless and mindless brutality!!! ENOUGH!! I PRAY FOR PEACE AND TOLERANCE! Have you any idea what these people must have endured and the scars that are still visible!!! Show me you understand and I may respect your work!!

Hello John, I do not understand very much what do you mean... about "that I understand". All the photos that you find in this site are devoted to this topic. I have been in Aushwitz two times already, I studied all that happened because, since the first time I was there, I discovered that the history books do not report even 1/4 of what really happened there. Then, my wife is Polish and I have known all that happened THERE to the Polish people as well, so I guess I have a far idea of what happened. Finally, I know I had to do something, a work, a serie of photos and paintings, on which I am working for, in order to REMEMBER, to show and REMEMBER. I respect your point of view, and you are right if you pray for the peace, but THIS, THERE (= in the centre of the well civilized Europe) happened only "60" years ago. To remember is very important.
best regards, Mirko

Dear mirko
This is third and last time. The second was a private email, but still you persist. I have also been to Aushwitz, as well as Babi Yar and other dreadful places. So what do I mean about my comment that "I understand"?

I understand that 20 percent of the Polish population were killed by both Germans and Russians. I understand that over a million catholics also died in the death camps. I understand that Germans killed Russians also in the millions, and Russians killed Germans, other nationalities and their OWN people in the millions, in faraway places like Siberia. I understand that homosexuals, people with disabilities, communists, catholics, innocent children were all slaughtered. I understand that it was recently repeated in Boznia.

I understand that it is now happening in the Sudan and Nigeria. In understand in In 1915 almost 2 million Armenians were slaughtered by the Turks. I understand that millions of Africans were transported and died far from their homes on faraway plantations. I understand that American Indians and Australian Aborigines were all but slaughted. During the Boer war, the British set up concentration camps to house South African men, women and children and thousands died there! That a friend of mine (who is Italian) has no family other than his mother and father, because all the rest were murdered by the SS. I understand that innocent Palestinian children get shot in the head by bored Israelis while they are playing and that innocent Isrealis get slaughtered through mindless acts terror. That is what I understand.

What I also understand is that civilisation is a veneer and that just below the surface, there are some very awful people, who given the chance, will do some very awful things, not just 60 years ago, BUT RIGHT NOW!!!

PEACE - we are on the same side. Enough of this and get on with your work.
