Cristo de Roca. belongs to the collection of the Museum of Sacred Art of Olinda, Brazil. the name of this kind of statues, "de roca", means that only the head, hands and feet are sculpted, and the main body is just an empty structure. their eyes usually are made of glass, the teeth of ivory or real teeth, the hair is real hair, and they are dressed as real individuals. many of them are articulated in order to be carried out of the temples in processions or to change their gestures, fitting the mood of each given festival. this exemple is exceptionally fine and rich in its genre, for these Christs usually do not bear that many symbols of His career and passion - but here we can see at His side a dove, a column and a model of church, being He dressed with princely clothes recalling His divine and auguste nature, His gesture and countenance are of a compassionate Teacher who never gives up His love for all although being tortured, and we can also see some instruments of His flagelation - a cord, the cross and 2 spears.
