I understand that Wukoki means "Big House" in Hopi. These are probably a three family residence from somewhere in the late 1100s to early 1200 AD time frame. Pretty cool how they built on top of and into the rock. It is believed that the Anasasi merged with the Hopi. Anasasi is a term coined by archaeologists for these mysterious people who inhabited the "four corners" area of Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and Utah in the 11th,12th and 13th Centuries. Some of the Anasasi groups are known by other names by the Native Americans that live in these areas today.
We did not quite make it up into Utah. Instead we hiked around Northern and Central Arizona. Brrr... Too cold for a desert rat like me in Utah at the moment now. 25 degree Farrenheit (less than zero celcius) was plenty cold in Northern Arizona for me. Plus our transportation was making some unusual knocking noises so we stayed closer to home.
