I am having trouble getting a good digital shot of these five feral kittens I am foster homing for a month or so. This shot was made with Aperture Mode (maximum aperture), matrix metering, Nikon Speedlight SB-80DX attached with flash head tilted up and the white card extended, and it is barely adequate. The kittens are black (3) and dark chocolate calico (2). All are females.

A tough exposure, but it seems fine to me. Perhaps tone down a little the dark tones could be useful, although it can be a matter of monitors. See my little try with curves: my variant of the photo

thanks that is better....of course the other problem is to get all five looking in the same direction and then the shutter lag of the 5700 works against me then....back to an old film camera, I think.
