At this time of year, give or take a week, the earth is in it's orbital periapsis (perihelion) to the sun. Actually I think it was January 3rd this year. The inverse (mathematics) may be true in about 25,000 years time.

Either way.... as long as good old earth keeps rolling around the sun, I'm "quite" happy!
