The Washing Machine !

Mayhem, complete mayhem! A white aqua-jungle. Wild, and unforgiving ! The air becomes extremely moist with spray flying through the air, almost like a mist.

In the foreground, resting in the downwind side of the rock you will see what looks like soap suds. That's actually salt water, churned up so much by smashing around on the rocks that it takes on a non-liquid form similar to whisked egg-white. If it should stray beyond the shelter of the rock and get caught by the wind, it flies away in a manner similar to horizontal snow, only in much larger lumps.

You found a beautiful stormy scene. I like what you captured but offer this variation for thought. I framed a little off centre and played a bit with the exposure. I think the composition is strengthened and the whites a bit brighter. my variant of the photo

Geoff, thanks for the variant. I like the improvement in the contrast, and the "focus" has changed slightly.

I managed to rattle off quite a few of this scene before I became uncomfortably soaked. But it was very difficult to work out which one to post in here. Herewith another shot of the same session.

To actually convert the true drama of the scene into a static image would probably require more elaborate photo equipment and a better technique. Nonetheless, at least I felt it for real! laugh my variant of the photo

Wonderful capture. Quite a pounding the surf must take to get it to be sea foam.
Regards.
