Silvia, thanks for the variant. But I must apologise as we are getting the axes confused. I was thinking in latitude/longitude for some daft reason. 
. The sea air must be affecting me !!
If you crop "flatline" from the top or bottom (which is in your variant), you are effectively reducing the height of the vertical axis. This I do not want to do. Conversely, cropping the sides reduces the length of the horizontal axis, this is the one that bothers me a bit.
However, after all is said and done, it probably looks best staying as it is.
