This romantically inspired heroic group portray the Maori explorer Kupe Raiatea, his wife Te Aparangi, and Tohunga (or priest) in the act of sighting Aotearoa-New Zealand. She is supposedly pointing to a cloud on the horizon, which was a sign of land in the wide Pacific, and saying "Hei te ao te a roa!" I see a long cloud! This is the origin of Aotearoa as the Maori name for the land discovered.
