I though about it. The phone booth is balancing the image, IMHO. And also it gives the feeling that the boy is too small and can not reach the booth. The little boy in the big world...

Trust to say drainpipe is also not wanted here. The stones in ashlar are quite big for this boy so impression will be the same.
