In this hanging over a cliff and covered with tiles, the house lived a famous Karaite scholar Abraham Samuilovich Firkovich (1786-1874). Having lived many years in Derbent and in Jerusalem, traveled to the Crimea, Caucasus, Turkey, Palestine and Egypt, he sought out ancient manuscripts and folios, mostly - full or partial text of the Pentateuch, allowing to trace the development of codification of the biblical text. Even during his life he handed over part of its unique collection, 15 thousand items, in the Imperial Rossiyskuyu public library and now all of this fund is kept in the Manuscript department of the State Public Library.
