Castle BIP - Big Toy Paul - a fortress built on the site of a small hunting lodge "Mariental", as a training fortification of the fortress. The place was chosen to strengthen the very successful, earlier Swedish outpost was located here, built by General Kroniortom in 1702.
The architect of the fortress was chosen VF Brenna, by that time much has been drawn up in Pavlovsk. Brenna's views and approaches to architecture liked Paul, but this style was a new architect, so the construction and watched the famous architect D. Quadri.
The castle is a two-storey building of pentagonal shape with a patio and two turrets, surrounded by earthworks around. Then the castle even had guns of almost three dozen guns.
In 1798 the castle BIP was included in the register of military fortresses Russia Empire. There was a garrison, military service, at noon fired a cannon at sunset raised the bridge over the moat, and in the basement of a guardhouse - a real military fort.
But in the beginning of the XIX century the fortress was excluded from the Engineering department, there was Russia's first school for the deaf, and then for the disabled. In 1833-34 gg. located here infirmary Exemplary Cavalry Regiment. Then in 1835, various schools or office.
After the revolution, then housed Soviet, and in 1919 - the headquarters of General Yudenich. Since the 1920's before the war the castle was set aside for children's home, then located the bank, military offices, warehouses. In 1944 the castle burnt down completely and the beginning of the XXI century remained in the form of picturesque ruins of Pavlovsk.
