Of particular interest is the Amsterdam architecture. And the old and new. Actually, the city is impressive, especially its narrow, but elegant houses, more like some weird home some fabulous creatures. Surely in the XXI century, people actually live in such protruding at random, like mushrooms, the little house? Live and, indeed, living is not bad. Just different. And these houses are not the whim of an eccentric architect, and a forced necessity. The fact that Amsterdam was built in a catastrophic shortage of land: the fact that the builders had at their disposal - a few dozen small islands, a lot of sea water and swamp sludge. Had to save precious land and constantly fighting with the water element. Therefore, all the houses in Amsterdam are not on the ground, on stilts in length from ten to twenty meters, driven into the muddy shaky ground. IL - relying not so hot what a solid, so many buildings start to "dance", leaning in different directions. That's Amsterdam and the "dancing" their houses!
I have curvature of the buildings is another reason - the material. In the old property tax depended on the width of the facade, that is, the greater the house - the more tax and, accordingly, the richer the family, living in this house. Therefore, many amsterdamtsy tried to build as possible, narrow houses, housing, growing inside, or even obliquely, if the house stood on the corner. Because of this compactness and tightness in Amsterdam houses have been unique to their attributes. First, it is incredibly narrow and steep stairs, which is extremely difficult even to walk, not just wear something three-dimensional. Secondly, as a consequence, the availability of special lifts that are installed on top of the facade, through which one could make, and make furniture and various other goods through the wide windows of the house.
