Hi All! :)

My wife spotted this little creature near the river (Dan River) this morning. Some people call them Red Velvet Ants. It`s most common name (Cow Killer) comes from those who have said that it`s sting is so severe that it could kill a cow, it can leave whelps and blisters for several weeks (so they say). Despite their name, Cow Killers are actually wasps that have very dense hair covering their body. Males have wings, females don`t.
I thought it interesting enough to photograph it so I could share it with you all. It`s the first time I`ve ever seen one.

Thanks for looking! :)
