- the largest comet ever recorded approaching the sun, Bradfield C2004/F4, popped out of nowhere April 13 and was caught by SOHO from April 16 to April 20.

- two new major comets, NEAT C2001/Q4 and LINEAR C2002/T7, are approaching the Earth. On May 17 the tail of T7 is expected to affect the Earth like never recorded before by any other comet.
