notes:
This is a young Short-Eared Owl. Her very short ear-tufts are rarely visible….. She is usually silent. This owl is most commonly seen late in the afternoon....as it begins to move about in preparation for a night of hunting - she likes small rodents. I had luck to shoot her because you don’t see them often.

SOOOOO perfect picture!!!! Composition is great... maybe it` would be better if you cut from the top a little bit, but it`s no important and doesn`t improve composition... Great details, of curse! Very good work!!!

Many thanks, Temabina! I did cut from the top but there was hardly no difference - because of the story of this owl, it was better to see the horizon..

Fantastic shot, Peter! I not only admire your ability to shoot this timid bird, but also the fact that it`s not only an excellent shot from nature. You have created a plot here. The little owl looks almost as a human creature, so much reminds me of some wandering street child perched on some steps with all wide and wild world in front of him.

But it looks like old and wise. All is excellent!

The sun flare is too distracting IMO. The owl part is wonderful!

Sun flare is a little distracting, but in no way detracts from this poignant image. The highlights on the feathers are very impressive, and the solemn, contemplative mood of this small raptor is enchanting to view.

wow....now I can really see those nice markings and those eyes.I like the vast space ...sort of signifies her freedom..good image...you are lucky to have seen and captured her...

The flare to me makes this, it bonds bird and sky, especially given the red tones so aptly suited to a birfd of prey and his eye watching everything. Given the difficulty of this subject, to do better would be wishful thinking. This is an I wish I had frame.

Great shot Peter but tend to agree with the opinion of croping out the flare.

wow! smile ) I think this must be a very rare capture. She looks incredibly adorable smile Something child-like not only about the young creature but about the mood of the photo in general. Even the peeking sun provides for a great, effective parallel. Digitalization visible, but any technical glitches pale in the face of this feathery beauty.

How you got this close - I`ll never know - these birds are very skittish - well done
