In Yellowstone, hot springs and pools exhibit all colors of the rainbow. Pigments within microorganisms are responsible for brightly colored run-off channels. Here, carotenoids produces yellow, orange and red.

All pigments found in living cells intensify or become muted directly by the amount of light they receive daily or seasonally.

Canon 10D with Canon 17-40, ISO 100, f/8, 1/125, tripod.
