Uzupis
Uzupis is an old district of Vilnius, in a loop of the river Vilnia.
It is as a village which would not have changed for a very long time.. Soviet had completely forgotten it and it continued to live at the rhythm of old times and to deteriorate itself.
The living conditions are difficult there. Behind old palaces, the inhabitants must often share only one drinking water tap... But there are kitchen gardens, secret gardens, and a great user-friendliness between people ... Today artists live here, in the middle of the ruins because the charm of the place..
On April the first 2000 some inhabitants created the Republic of Uzupis and separated from Vilnius.
They wrote a constitution of 41 articles... It is the subject of the photograph.
In Uzupis, there are a mayor, a president, a bishop, an ambassador in Moscow and an army of 12 soldiers.
The last article of the constitution says "don't surrender!!"
My next photographs will be a small series about Uzupis.
