notes:
I often ignore things in my city. However, as it is the holiday season I wanted to see if they put luminarias on the old mission.
No, turns out again that a team of restoration experts are hard at work keeping this holy place built in 1797 standing. San Xavier del Bac is known as "The White Dove of the Desert." It is still used to this day and the Baroque interior is as it was when it was first built. The first mission on this spot was started a hundred years ealier by Father Kino. He brought Christianity to the Americas. There are five missions in the South West and Mexico that sprung from his mission. We live by two of them. I hope no one minds if I concentrate a few weeks on this one. I found it to be so ornate and beautiful, even as it was being restored. You may go to the following link to learn about the missions founded by father Kino, and links to photos of each.
