The cloister is located in Rostov, not far from the Kremlin, on the bank of the lake Nero. This cloister was founded by St. Jacob, Bishop of Rostov, in 1389. Initially it was called the Conception monastery, after its main church. Its present name finds the following explanation: St. Jacob was its founder, Savior - because Savior monastery was attached to it, St. Dmitry was the Bishop of Rostov whose imperishable relics reposed here.
